First graders recently learned about Morse Code in a co-curricular unit by Mrs. Bobula in Science and Mrs. Bullock in Music. The musicians learned that Morse Code is made of long and short sounds. They did a play-along on classroom instruments and made necklaces with their name in Morse Code. They finished off the unit by keying their name into a telegraph machine. When the second graders heard what was happening, they wanted a chance too, so they also had the opportunity to write their name and key it on the telegraph. The first grade scientists ended their physical science unit by using Morse code to communicate with sound and light! They had a blast learning how to spell words with light flashes and sound.
