Our next sharer of greatness is Kaidyn who is a 3rd grader at BES! He has been playing hockey with the Vipers since he was 5 years old and is very proud to be! His hockey team took 2nd place in the Chicago United Hockey League and he scored 5 out of the 6 goals for his team at that game. Kaidyn says he wants to be the next Wayne Gretzky when he gets older

On Monday, we were able to celebrate some some student Greatness at the school board meeting. First graders were celebrated for their terrific attention to details in their writing with our new writing curriculum this school year. These students pay close attention to the mini lessons being taught as they apply foundational skills as well as adding details to their words and illustrations during writing. These students have worked hard as they independently write everyday and have been rockstar writers! Their teachers are very proud of their hard work!

SHARE YOUR GREATNESS!

Today, the 3rd grade had their Heritage Day celebration. They had been working so hard learning all about their own heritage and traditional tales from those countries and researching one of their origin countries as well. Parents were able to come in and visit the presentations students put together. And we also had a special visitor who tried to find his way home to Ireland too. Way to work hard, Mustangs!!!

The students at Brookwood Elementary learned the song Cockles and Mussels over the past few weeks. This sea shanty is an unofficial anthem of Ireland. In addition to the music, it has a variety of things that the students could learn from. We talked about how verses in a song tell a story - they learned the meaning of the words in the song and they predicted what would happen to Molly Malone. We talked about how Ireland is a seafaring company, so they get some of their food from the sea. The students really enjoyed the song and were especially surprised by what happened to Molly Malone at the end of the song. This class asked to put on a special performance to be shown to our parents on the internet! Thanks, Mustangs, for sharing your love for singing with our families!
