They may look familiar to many of you because we were fortunate to have them both as student teachers since the beginning of the school year. Now, Ms. Stolzman is joining our team as a daily sub in both buildings and Ms. Burgeson is our long-term substitute in our elementary school's special education department. Today the Elementary school kicked off Kindness Week with an awesome assembly! The students learned about what a random act of kindness is - ask your student about their Random Act Of Kindness challenge for tomorrow (Random Act Of Kindness Day)! Grade levels got to share what their grade level service projects are, Kindness Squad taught the rest of the school their kindness chant and we of course had lots of fun with "minute to win it" games! Click this link to see an album of pictures and videos from their assembly today: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1z1tja0XBVeIObnNDCige06nbMeQZ-n2U?usp=sharing

Last Sunday, Mrs. Nast and Mrs. Fitzsimmons took their kindness students to Walmart to do some random acts of kindness. The students did an amazing job and were touched by the reactions they received. One shopper who received a flower from our student was in disbelief, she told the student, "you don't know how much this means to me right now" and was brought to tears. It was a touching moment that the students still talk about. Here is what their kindness mission at Walmart looked like. Way to go, Kindness Squad!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rz43l9ww_ts

This week during BES Kindness Week, each grade level brainstormed and came up with a service project. The students are very excited about spreading kindness this week. Along with their service projects, students will be immersed in kindness within their classroom doing fun and academic activities, in guidance they will be learning more about kindness and random acts of kindness, in PE they will be learning about being kind to their bodies and in science they will be learning about being kind to animals and nature. Don't forget about dress up days - classrooms will get points for the number of students who dress up! Random Acts of Kindness Day sheets are due back on Tuesday, we can't wait to see what your family did for Random Acts of Kindness Day tomorrow!! It's going to be a great week of kindness at BES!! Here are some students sharing what their grade level is doing for their kindness week service project! Thank you to all the families who have helped donate items to make their service projects successful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYV6voDc0BI

Our young scientists tested water quality during the Science on Saturday program! Water was collected from various places around the school, Nippersink Creek, and snow banks. After testing these samples, the scientists swept a section of the parking lot, added water to dissolve any chemicals in what was collected, and then tested it. Hint...the salt was off the charts! When the snow-ice melts, the salt is left behind to wash into the drain. This water is never filtered and eventually makes its way to the creek. The scientists brain-stormed ways to improve this for the environment then made t-shirts supporting water conservation. Our last session is on Saturday, February 24th from 10-11:30am at Brookwood Middle School - door 5 For more information contact Mrs. Kanthack at MaryEllen.Kanthack@gcj2.k12.wi.us
