GCJ2 Family: We are truly thankful and blessed to have you all as a part of our Brookwood Family. We appreciate your continuous support in our school District. Have a restful few days off and we will see you all on Monday. Each year the students in Miss Flood's kindergarten get asked a question....."I want to make a turkey for my family to eat for Thanksgiving. What do I need to do?" And the students take it from there.... We hope that you've already started preparing your meals.....fair warning: We are NOT responsible for any hospital visits that may occur as a result of trying our recipes! 😀 We hope you enjoy this 29th edition of Ms. Flood's Kindergarten Thanksgiving Cookbook! https://tinyurl.com/y3lqz884

Brookwood Kindergarten through 5th grade artists joined in some Brookwood turkey fun. They were all supplied with the letter “B” and given directions to make the “B” into a Brookwood Turkey! The artists were given the option to enter their turkey into a K–5th grade Brookwood Turkey Contest. All the turkey entries were amazing and we are excited to announce some of the winners! #BeBrookwood #BrookwoodsBest https://youtu.be/ebRSEr5gLLA

The kindergarten student in Mrs. Renn's class worked on making turkeys. These turkeys are a form of process art that gives students freedom to choose how they want to create their art and how the final product will look. Making art is a wonderful way to work on finger strength, fine motor skills, and following directions. Skills included gluing, cutting, and coloring. These turkeys will decorate our school and homes. #BeBrookwood #BrookwoodsBest

Our 8th graders rock! Recently, they wrote a project- based exam to apply their understanding of Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion. They created Newton’s cradles and then used them to answer a series of questions using evidence and created claims. #BeBrookwood #BrookwoodsBest

We are excited to announce that Kohl's Wild Theater will be presenting a virtual assembly for our 4K through 5th grade students! On December 4th, the students ( virtual and in-person) will go on an adventure to the Zoo with a student named Skyler. After a mysterious encounter with a wise river turtle, Skylar is transformed into a Humboldt penguin, a zebra, and a river otter. Skylar learns that to return to human form, one must “wade with the waddle,” “doze with the dazzle” and “roll with the romp.” With the help of some colorful animals and a caring zookeeper, Skylar learns to overcome a fear of interacting with others. This 40-minute interactive musical meets social-emotional learning standards by exploring the connections between young people, zookeepers, and animals. Teachers will be providing the link to view the assembly on the day of the performance.

In the spirit of being thankful, we wanted to say THANK YOU for all of your support in regards to our online Scholastic book fair! With your purchases and dedication to your children's growth in and love of reading, our school received over $300 to purchase new library materials. While we certainly look forward to being able to have in-person book fairs again, we are very appreciative that we were able to make this online book fair a success. Until next time, happy reading! #BeBrookwood #BrookwoodsBest

Brookwood students are eligible for one FREE breakfast and one FREE lunch daily for the entire 2020-2021 school year. We encourage each student to take advantage of our nutritious meals at no cost. This will require no action on your part, just show up! Additional meals, milk, or a la carte purchases will be debited from the students' account. If your family has already paid toward your lunch balance, we ask that you please leave the balance for future use.

3rd grade students in Ms. Skalecki's class are researchers becoming experts on a topic of their choice. Students chose an informational topic they want to learn all about, and are gathering facts about their topic. Students have chosen topics like tsunamis, kangaroos, ferrets, sharks, legos, and more. They will be writing, and organizing information to share with others and we can't wait to see their final products! #BeBrookwood #BrookwoodsBest
