The 7th and 8th grade Jazz Band played in the Area Jazz Festival at Badger High School. Six bands participated between Brookwood, Lake Geneva Middle School, and Badger High School. It was great to see so many BMS Alumni playing with the high school band as well! What a great celebration of music! It was also Mr. Bunge's (Badger High School's Band Director) final Jazz Fest before he retires. Congratulations to all who performed! On April 11th, the Genoa City Joint 2 School District welcomed families, community members, and business partners into the middle school for a Community Partnership Thank You Reception. The District had a student artwork showcase led by the students of Kim Garrett and Missy Horak, and as a part of the reception, the District shared a presentation on various programs that are supported through Brookwood families and community members, such as: The Community Garden, The School Forest, The Brookwood Closet, Holiday Bundles, and School Supply Kits. Throughout the school year, the GCJ2 Staff Wellness Committee, which consists of volunteer staff members, shares various ways for our staff to encourage wellness consciousness and increase various bands of wellness such as their physical, mental, and social activities. Activities focusing on wellness are put out for staff to participate in voluntarily, with fun prizes awarded - courtesy of generous donations from local businesses. This year, we are thankful for the following businesses and people that have donated to and/or supported our Staff Wellness: Evolve Fitness Studio, Lake City Social Lake Geneva, Grand Geneva Resort & Spa - Josh Doyle, Low Daily, The Runaway Micropub and Nanobrewery, Towne & Country Lanes, Infinity Coffee & Beyond- Cafe B, Plaza Theater, Main Event Pub and Grill, The Bottle Shop - Lake Geneva, The Candle Mercantile, Richmond Mercantile, Mrs. Derickson for staff yoga, Mrs. Brenek for drumfit, and our committee members for asking and gathering donations -- but a huge shout out to Mrs. Conrardy and Miss Pacholczak for leading in the asking and gathering donations. Additionally, a HUGE thank you to our Wellness Committee members for putting together ALL the activities like monthly wellness bingo, bi-weekly inspirational emails, encouraging affirmations in staff locations, and the list goes on and on and on…. We were also SO excited to bring back mini massages for our teachers to partake in on-site which was one of the grand prizes this year. A tradition we are building at Brookwood Middle School is an annual collaboration between art and band. The photography classes learn about composition, lighting, and backgrounds, this helps our students when taking the photos. 7th and 8th grade band students come to the art room for a series of formal portraits; one holding their instrument, one playing their instrument, and one photo of a close up of their hands playing their instrument. This project was inspired by a quote that Mrs. Collins shared "As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself, the other for helping others." -Audrey Hepburn "The beauty of music-making is that you do both simultaneously." Students take home their photos at the end of the spring concert. All photos are taken and edited on the school ipads. Thank you to Callie C, Alyvia S, and Allie B!

We will have a short planning meeting and get the schedule firmed up for summer watering, weeding and harvesting BMS Community Garden Interest Sign Up Sign up on this form for this great community opportunity located at BMS! Signing up for a week entitles you to a summer of harvesting whatever is ready to be picked and what you can use for your table. There is plenty! Many hands make light work and it will be necessary to weed and water the garden at least 3 times a week. Please check what month and week works best for you. Weeks run from Sunday to Saturday. We will be holding an informational meeting on May 14th at 5 to discuss what has already been planned and planted as well as what needs to be planted. BES Kindness Squad is very excited about their last service project of the year! They have set their minds to preparing and running a donation drive for the Lakeland Animal Shelter. Kindness Squad needs the help of our Brookwood families, friends and the community to make their donation drive a success. Here is a video they have helped to prepare to get the word out about Lakeland Animal Shelter and their donation drive that runs from May 15 - May 29th! Following the donation drive, they will be hand delivering the donations to the shelter and providing some hands-on service work while at the shelter. 7th & 8th grade students in Life Skills class had another guest career speaker, our very own Mr. Dennis! Before becoming Broodwood's 7th grade math teacher, Mr. Dennis was a microbiologist. Students learned how his interest in science during high school turned into pursuing a college degree in biology and chemistry. Mr. Dennis shared that he enjoyed how he was able to directly apply his college education to his work in a lab testing microorganisms. Students asked questions and also reflected on how this career would interest them or impact their future career choices.

If a picture says a thousand words, just check this out!! Our spring forest outing last week offered a variety of activities for all ages. Students across the district spent some time in our school forest. Groups spent time doing various activities such as removing an invasive species to save the forest, use binocular-hand lenses-viewers to observe off trail, collect and make bookmarks & bracelets, scavenger hunts, and see the community garden. For some groups, another part of the day was spent doing eco-art projects, playing predator-prey tag, and beginning their units on children's mental health. It was a day packed full of exploration, observation, learning and creativity!
